Events in Ireland
17 February 2011
2011 kicked off in Ireland with a fantastic night hosted by Arthur Cox at their offices in Dublin. The Construction Contracts Bill if enacted will see adjudication introduced for the first time to construction disputes in Ireland. This will bring enormous change to the landscape of construction disputes in Ireland. We were delighted that Senator Fergal Quinn, who initiated this legislation by way of a private members bill in the Seanad presented to us outlining the history of this bill and the prospects of its enactement into Irish law. Fionuala McCredie, a barrister in Keating Chambers in London then gave us an insight into the experience of adjudication in the UK since its introduction there in 1998. Finally Don O Sullivan of the CIF gave us an insight into the thinking within the CIF of the introduction of adjudication into Ireland. Our thanks to Arthur Cox for a most interesting presentation and for the generous wine and finger food reception which followed.
