The Cause

Sheltering vulnerable people and families is a crucial aspect of CARE’s work, which includes some of the most important and pioneering emergency shelter and reconstruction projects in the world. CARE UK leads for the whole of CARE International on shelter, which is particularly crucial in times of crisis. Our team focuses on emergency shelter, right through to transitional shelter and building permanent homes and buildings. They also train communities in safer and longer-lasting construction techniques.

CARE focuses in particular on women and girls. Investing in women and girls is one of the most effective ways to help communities overcome poverty. Research has shown that when one woman is helped out of poverty, she'll bring four other people with her.
