Dublin Port Masterplan Consultation

03 May 2011

Dublin Port Company has commenced consultation on the preparation of a masterplan for Dublin Port until 2040.

Dublin Port Company has commenced a consultation process with the public, community groups, business representatives and organisations on the development of Dublin Port. The consultation process, which will involve everyone with an interest in Dublin Port and its future, will go towards creating a Masterplan - or blueprint - to determine how the port will be developed over the next 30 years.

Dublin Port is already Ireland's largest and busiest port. It handles over €35 billion worth of trade every year and supports some 4,000 jobs locally. Even at very modest growth levels, Dublin Port will easily double its existing trade volumes by 2040. We have already seen some evidence of a return to growth with a 6% rise in port throughput in 2010.

With this in mind Dublin Port Company needs to ensure that Dublin Port will be ready and able to handle larger trade volumes efficiently and competitively when the time comes and in doing so meet the trading needs of our city and national economy. Dublin Port Company needs a plan which takes into account the views of people and organisations who have an interest in the development and future of Dublin Port and Dublin City.

Dublin Port Company has published an Issues Paper to facilitate the consultation process for the preparation of a Masterplan for Dublin Port for the period 2011 - 2040. The issues Paper describes the current operations of Dublin Port, details some strategic issues that will face the Port over the period of the Masterplan and examines future trends in key areas of trade and transport.

Dublin Port welcomes submissions from interested parties during the consultation process leading to the development of the Masterplan. All details are available here: http://www.dublinport.ie/masterplan
