Local politicians join forces to push case for Metro North

While the indications are that the project may be put on the long finger, local political representatives have once again joined forces to push the case for the transport link home to the Government.

The latest move in the campaign to save the Metro North project was a motion at Fingal County Council reaffirming the local authority's commitment to the project. The motion came from Cllr Darragh Butler and read: 'Fingal County Council continues to fully support the Metro North project as being vital for the transport infrastructure and economic development of Fingal and North Dublin and calls on Ministers Varadkar, Reilly and Burton to ensure that this project proceeds as planned and is not cancelled or indefinitely delayed at this late stage by the new Fine Gael and Labour Government.'

The motion received all party support and proved once again that councillors of every political hue are square behind the Metro North project.

In recent weeks, local representatives have been fighting a new threat to the project as the plan to build a DART spur from Clongriffin to Dublin Airport was resurrected and a firm business plan for the project was submitted to the Government for the first time.

But the elected members of Fingal County Council are at one in believing that Metro North is the only show in town and the one that will deliver the greatest benefit to our county capital while also being the most viable option by providing a much greater customer base for the service.
