On Monday the 4th, our regional team welcomed 180 guests to this year's end of the year celebration.
It was a beautiful evening full of positivity and ideas to shape the forthcoming year.
After a glass of bubbles sponsored by two of our SMES from the NAWIC London and South East Business Club (Sleeping Giant Consulting (LINK) and Atelier EURA (LINK) ), the group left the foyer and entered the room which had been beautifully decorated by the Radisson Team to proceed with the main event which was sponsor, Hardwicke (LINK).
This year, Kathy Basheva, Regional Head of Development gave an introduction and spoke both about NAWIC and the team's achievements in the past year. Following Kathy, Regional Chair Cristina Lanz-Azcarate thanked attendees and Collaborators and introduced the Regional Strategy for the next two years. (LINK) She also shared the news of the generous offer the team behind the Women in Construction Summit had given to our members (LINK)
After a delicious meal, and while waiting for deserts, we were lucky to have a very inspiring group of speakers:
First, and thanks to the amazing Kath Moore (MD of Women into Construction), two apprentices Rachel Penfold (apprentice engineer at Battersea for Careys) and Halima Isse (apprentice site manager at Berkeley homes) shared their personal stories and reminded us of the many opportunities to be found in our industry. When they finished, our Regional head of education, Eirini Garoufalia, thanked collaborators spoke about the opportunities for collaboration available within the NAWIC Educational Calendar.
Then Concepcion Vicente (NAWIC member and winner of best woman contractor at WICE 2017) spoke about how the process of nomination for the WICE Awards had allowed her to gain an insight of her own achievements and winning had motivated her to become an STEM ambassador and NAWIC member among other things.
Finally, the ever wonderful Katy Dowding, Executive Vice President of Skanska and former NAWIC chair, spoke about how she got involved with NAWIC and why it is important to engage with the purpose of our work in order to remain motivated.
By the time deserts arrived, the level of activity in the room was remarkable. Ideas were proposed, collaborations discussed, project ideas shared... it was pretty amazing.
Our guests agreed the evening was a success and so do we.
From here, we would like to thank our Sponsors for their support, the team at the Radisson Blu Edwardian for their hosting and attention to detail, the committee for their work behind the scenes and to all of those who attended for being such a great company!
