Join us for a lunchtime CPD session presented by Chris Bester (Principal Environment and Sustainability Consultant at HLG Associates Ltd) on Sustainable Construction, Embodied Carbon.

One important aspect of the effects of construction on the environment is the understanding of the sources of carbon emissions during construction, how these are calculated and where in the lifetime of the building they originate from. The industry must consider the impacts that occur pre and post build after the construction phase has been completed.

This presentation will help attendees understand the foundations regarding embodied carbon analysis and an introduction to life cycle thinking, what the Jersey planning process requires in term of carbon analysis and the challenges faced in ensuring accurate calculations.

The presentation will begin at 12.30pm and will be approximately 45 minutes with the opportunity for questions to follow. Tickets include a light lunch so please email jersey@nawic.co.uk if you have any queries or dietary requirements.

NAWIC Jersey members are entitled to free access to this event and are required to purchase their tickets using the promo code circulated to them via email.

The learning objectives for this event are as follows:

  • Understand the terms 'embodied carbon' and 'life cycle' in terms of the construction industry
  • Consider a basic life cycle analysis process
  • Review the ways to estimate carbon and the guidance available
  • Understand the requirements of the Bridging Island Plan in terms of carbon analysis

*Please note: this event is currently CPD accredited in principle with full certification and certificates of attendance to be issued post event. We will update the attendees in due course.

NAWIC Jersey is a community-based, non-profit organisation aiming to provide networking and personal development opportunities in Jersey’s construction industry. One of our key aims is to encourage more women into the industry and support them throughout their careers, however, we are in no way women exclusive and encourage every gender to get involved and attend our events. NAWIC Jersey also aims to promote good practice and awareness by providing regular seminars that we believe will benefit to the industry as a whole.
