NAWIC Wellness Club Update

We hope you had a great week in celebration of International Women's Day. There was a lot of support and solidarity across our media channels, highlighting that whether it’s calling out inequality and gender bias, celebrating women’s achievements, or being more considerate about your own thoughts and actions, we can all play our part.

On behalf of NAWIC, we'd like to thank all those who became members of NAWIC Wellness Club and who signed up to our first challenge.

During IWD week, our Wellness Club members collectively ran 188km!

Hear from some of our Wellness Club members who participated...

Cassandra's Wellness Club update photo"I started running (or shuffling at the time!) during lock down to try and keep fit and lose weight.  As I got stronger and could cover more distance, running became less about losing weight and more about making me happy and looking after mental health.
It is still hard to get the motivation to get out the door sometimes (particularly over winter), but what helps me is the feeling I know I will get once I am out, and I can honestly say I have never regretted any of my runs – even the hard ones!!"

Chloe's NAWIC Wellness Club photos"Thank you for putting together the NAWIC Wellness club. I really enjoyed trying various different aspects of the Challenges, and would be keen to take part and promote some others. I completed an a 8km + run in a figure of 8 on the 1st March, and 8km+ walk with my Pony winter with a little figure of 8 in it on the 7th March and an 8km+ run last night to celebrate IWD2021."

Rachel's NAWIC Wellness Club photos"I have a background in architecture and have worked as a sustainability engineer for several years.
I love to set myself a challenge in my professional and personal life. I am an active cyclist and runner. I have also dabbled in triathlons, competing in a half Ironman in New Zealand. In lockdown I have continued to run, and am part of a virtual cycling team which I participate in a weekly virtual race. This is is the highlight of my week!"

Loretta's NAWIC Wellness Club photos"I went out for a cycle yesterday for the first time in YEARS, so thanks to NAWIC Wellness Club for the push. It's SO good to get out for some fresh air.  I took a route from Manchester City centre mainly along National Cycleway 6 which I used to do every weekday for work years ago when I lived in North Manchester."
